To the creatives, the healers, the dreamers, the doers, the leaders, and the soulful entrepreneurs ready to leave their mark on this world: this article is for you. You are a visionary whose ideas have the potential to rock this world. You dream of creating a heart-centered business. There’s only one thing holding you back: yourself.

Perhaps you have some questions about business ownership and you simply aren’t sure where to begin. Or perhaps you’ve got the drive and the talent, yet occasionally find yourself doubting… well… yourself. Either way, here’s some entrepreneurial advice for getting out of your own way so you can finally start running the business of your dreams.

When they’re first starting out, many business owners like yourself worry about how they will make ends meet while getting their business off the ground. This is why many people recommend having an “exit strategy” in place before quitting your day job to focus on your passion 100% of the time. Having a business plan will also help you determine a strategy for making money and keeping the lights on while you’re just starting out. In fact, if you’re seeking a loan or venture capital, a sound business plan is a must-have.

In addition to an exit strategy and business plan, it’s also a good idea to build up a nest egg in your savings account prior to taking the leap. Common advice says to build a savings fund that can cover your monthly expenses for at least six months, just in case you hit any lengthy or unexpected bumps in the road while building your business.

Make time (and save money) for marketing, imagery, business cards, headshots and a website. All of these are very important when you’re launching a business. If done correctly, they are worthwhile investments that will pay for themselves by bringing you more money in the long run.

Savvy business owners should also consider using apps, computer software and other technology to help run their business in more efficient ways. A great example of this is payroll; by having the right W2 software rather than trying to do everything yourself, you can take a load off your mind as a business owner. When we unload mundane tasks as entrepreneurs, such as accounting and payroll, we free ourselves to focus on activities that light us up.

The world is full of people like you who are looking to share their ideas with the world. Becoming a business owner can be a deeply rewarding experience for any compassionate, heart-centered individual who enjoys helping others. Whether you’re a yoga teacher, a graphic designer, a web developer, or a photographer, you most likely look forward to sharing your special type of magic with the world. And – trust me on this one – the world looks forward to receiving the gifts you’ve been longing to share.
